Raquel Garcia oversees all daily administrative operations at Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries. Previously, Raquel had been an administrative assistant for more than fourteen years with the Latin American/Caribbean office of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Raquel first met Feliberto Pereira shortly after his arrival in the Rio Grande Valley in 1973. Raquel’s nephew began telling her about a young, dynamic Cuban minister who was reviving a small Christian Church in San Benito—the church her nephew began attending. Raquel’s family had been cradle-to-grave Presbyterians, whose worship styles, she said, were conservative and rigid. At her nephew’s invitation, she began attending Feliberto’s church and soon joined the choir. The two have been friends and professional associates ever since.
