Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries is located near Los Fresnos, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley, about a half-hour’s drive from both Harlingen and Brownsville, Texas. Our ministries are situated on a five-acre campus we call Casa Compasión, or “House of Compassion.” Casa Compasión is home to both refugees paroled to our custody and volunteers who visit us on adult and youth mission trips. Volunteers have built all of our facilities, which include dormitories, bath facilities, a warehouse for emergency food supplies, a kitchen and dining facilities, an office, a caretaker’s cottage, a garage for tools and mowers, an educational building, and a chapel. On the grounds, we also added an outdoor chapel, a prayer garden and a volleyball court. The Casa Compasión campus hosts adult and youth mission groups who are kept busy with building projects, such as constructing small homes for the poor, making needed repairs, conducting classes at our affiliated orphanage, colonias, and Bible institutes in Mexico. Everyone who comes participates in daily devotions and prayers. For the teens, we leave time for a trip to nearby South Padre Island at the conclusion of their stay with us. Casa Compasión is also used for weekend spiritual retreats for people of all faith backgrounds.
Most groups travel to us by car, van or bus. Parking is plentiful. Our ministry is also served by three major airports in Harlingen, Brownsville and McAllen.
